Introduction

AK Sports Cars was started in the mid 80's by ‘A’lan Frew and ’K’en Freeman. As the company grew Ken was joined by his two sons and in 2001 moved to their current premises in Peterborough. They currently produce around 40 cars/kits a year and are a true passionate family business. What makes AK stand out from the other Cobra Replicas is the sheer quality of the body shells and attention to detail. AK use expensive resin which has a resistance to heat up to 125 degrees. This helps minimise distortion and means that the paint finish can be baked in an oven as a conventional car giving a much harder paint finish. The bodies are made in house with a thick gel coat and are left in the moulds for a minimum of three days which reduces the chance of movement to an absolute minimum. The chassis is their own ladder frame design also made in house giving good road holding and the correct ride height stance.
 
This particular AK 427 was factory built then registered in April 2003 on a “C” registration plate. It started life powered by a Rover V8 but the most recent owner in 2007 spent over £10,000 having it replaced with a Chevy V8 350 which was stroked to a 383 (which converts to around 6.2 Litres). The gearbox was replaced at this point with a 5 speed Getrag unit along with other improvements such as a new ignition control unit, new radiator and cooling plumbing, new exhaust headers and new clutch hydraulic pipes.

Cosmetically it presents well and in one of the most desired colour combinations for a Cobra, dark blue with magnolia interior.

It was ordered from new without the wet weather gear option meaning the lines of the car are cleaner with no rivets to accommodate a tonneau and soft top.

The engine bay is also in very clean order as you’d expect for a car having such a large amount spent on it.

It also benefits from Stainless Steel Side Exhausts, 16" Hallibrand Style Wheels, a Single Hoop and Front and Rear Bumpers.

It comes with a file of invoices and MOT’s and is being supplied with new rear tyres.

Condition

External – The paintwork is in very nice order with a modest level of stone chips on the lower edge of the nose.  

Wheels - In excellent condition with no kerbing.

Interior – In excellent condition with no excessive wearing in the seats, carpeting or trim.

Tyres (New 7/8mm – Legal Limit 1.6mm)
