1971 Ford Escort RS 1600 BDA - SOLD

 This very early RS is chassis number 16 of 1,137 produced, and was delivered new to Ford Malta in 1971, as a right hand drive 'homologation special' from the famous Ford AVO (Advanced Vehicle Operations) division.
Unlike many similar RS's of the period, it did not succumb to the conversion in to a rally car, and was used by just 2 owners until it returned to the UK in 2004. The recorded mileage can thus be traced and verified at 40,700 miles from new.
This Escort retains an array of original features such as :-
original airbox
all chassis plates and ID stampings
off-set engine mounting cross-member
rear valence stone deflector
and even a factory external isolator switch.
The engine block was replaced in period (25 years ago) with the 'South African spec' improved block, which is now very desirable as it significantly improves reliability and durability.
This car now represents a unique chance for a new owner to continue the preservation of a true Ford Motorsport icon. Must be seen to be appreciated.
